Newport Beach is an affluent community in Orange County with a population of about 100,000.  There is an active boating community and Yacht Club and it is home to Newport Harbor.
The city's median family income and property values consistently place high in national rankings. Newport Beach was incorporated in 1906. 
It includes Balboa Island, a residential community with a village area (shops and restaurants) and small town charm, including a waterfront path around the island for walking, jogging, biking.  There is a ferry depot to Catalina Island as well.
There are many gated communities overlooking the ocean and in the hills above, with ocean views.  Newport Coast is an area (separate town but closely affiliated with Newport Beach) with newer, planned, gated residential communities as well. 
Newport is home to Fashion Island, an extensively developed high end shopping and dining area, and business community.
