Laguna Beach is a seaside resort city, (incorporated in the late 1920s) with accessible beaches and coves, located in southern Orange County. Laguna Beach is known for its arts community with art galleries, many art shows, events and exhibitions throughout the year. The arts community has a base with the Laguna College of Art and Design. There are many shops and restaurants in the quaint, village downtown area.
The population is about 30,000, with dense residential properties near the beach, and ocean view homes and condos in the hills immediately above. It is accessible by a canyon road and the Pacific Coast Highway, and this limited access lends itself to a relatively isolated urban encroachment. There is a dedicated greenbelt of about 8 miles of protected Laguna coastline.
Tourism is the primary industry, with an estimated 3 million people visiting the community annually. Summer sees significantly increased foot and road traffic because of the location and annual art shows.
